Academic Success
Moorland School is a non-selective Private School in Clitheroe, within the heart of the Ribble Valley and it has an established and impressive 80 year track record of providing real 'value added' education. Students at the school regularly achieve well above 90% 5 A* to C grades at GCSE, including English and Mathematics.
In last year's GCSE exams 100% of pupils achieved six A* - C grades, with several students achieving 12 GCSE grades A* - C.
"Moorland features consistently in the region's top 10 for GCSEs and other academic achievements, making it one of the best performing schools in the country." - Live Ribble Valley,July 2010.
2010 : 100% students achieved six A*-C grades
2009 : 93% students achieved six A*-C grades
2008 : 95% students achieved six A*-C grades
Many parents are concerned about government moves towards even larger state schools and 'Academy' schools, and the policy of inclusion combined with the lack of real choice in secondary education, makes parents consider Moorland a wise choice. We believe that many parents question the policy of inclusion where, in some schools, teachers can find themselves spending 80 per cent of their time managing the behaviour of just 5% of the pupils. Many of our parents make significant personal sacrifices to educate their children privately, as they have concerns that the state system is not giving their children the very best opportunity and care at this vital stage in their lives. We would urge any parent, whether selecting a state or a private school, to consider the class size, as this is fundamentally what is being paid for. You are paying for contact time for your child with a teaching professional. Moorland School caps the class sizes at 20 pupils, and in most instances our classes are even smaller than this.
"We notice a big difference in our Year 7 children compared to new entrants at that age because they already used to homework and a progressive learning structure. So if parents are considering senior school education for their children, then I would encourage them to think about Year 6 entry which will help give them a flying start. And most importantly unlike other schools, children can start at any stage in the academic year."

Further success at A-levels
We were delighted to hear about the A-level success of a number of former Moorland School pupils who undertook A-level courses at Clitheroe Royal Grammar School. We wish them every success in the future as they move on to continue their studies at University.
