A New Way of Learning – A Message from Our Headteacher

by Jan 14, 2021School

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we enter another lockdown, myself and the team wanted to reach out to you all at this overwhelming, stressful and uncertain time. We, as educators, understand the pressure you may all be feeling with regards to distance-learning. As the beating heart of our Moorland family, we wanted to remind you that we are here, that we care and that we still want to provide the very best education for our children as part of the Moorland Family.

Here are some things to keep in mind over the next few weeks:

1. Above all else, you need to be kind to yourselves. Teaching your children a comprehensive education, not only amidst a global pandemic but also alongside the pressures of home, is a job nobody is qualified for. We understand this and our team are here to provide the same level of education remotely, as if our children were here with us in the classroom. We are always on-hand to help, guide, and care for, not only our children, but you as well.

2. We are here. You are an extension of our family. If you require any extra help, additional resources or simply a friendly and understanding voice, one of the team will endeavour to listen and to assist.

3. We know some days will be harder than others. We know the on some day’s children will miss their friends and lack motivation; it’s ok. We understand the pressures on families right now. In these instances, be safe in the confidence that we are always on-hand to bridge any gaps and to promote positive learning. Our small class sizes allow for integral 1:1 time in order for children to catch-up or have more time spent with them on areas which require a refresh or more dedicated attention. We want children to return to school both happy and confident in their learning.

4. This is a new way of working for our children too. Children of all ages thrive on structure, peer interaction, friendship formation and the physicality of being in the classroom environment. Allow them, and yourselves, time to adapt. Our best learning happens when we are happy. The team at Moorland are set up to arrange these social interactions between class mates and teachers alike, pursuing an element of normality in connecting with each other. We can encourage online learning by allowing children to find joy in little successes and celebrate with them in their achievements. We will hold your hand through the small steps, every day.

5. Sharing successes! We miss all our children and want to be present in both their academic and personal achievements. If they learn to ride a bike in lockdown, we want to know! Did they bake some cupcakes – let’s see them! Celebrating any success gives children the courage to keep trying and the determination to keep learning.

Ultimately, we all want the very best for our children. We are sure you are doing more than enough right now by simply loving and supporting them in these unprecedented circumstances. We are proud of how our Moorland family has adapted so far, and we will continue to navigate these uncertain times together.

Kind Regards

Mr J Harrison
