Moorland School is lucky enough to have incredible facilities and a dedicated team of extracurricular advisors. From Junior to Senior level, we offer a wide selection of activities to appeal to a broad range of interests. Whether you’re interested in team sports such as football, netball or rugby, individual pursuits like ballet, dance, or drama, or further academic pursuits such as languages or forest school, we have the activity for you.
We can offer so much because of the school’s grounds and extramural team. Such is the success of our programmes that our Ballet and Football programmes have become renowned throughout Europe for producing professional dancers and footballers.
Students are encouraged to make the most of what the school has to offer and take part in whatever extra murals interest them. We also regularly plan trips and outings to Clitheroe and further afield. This allows students to learn by exploring the world around them.
For students looking for more academic interests, we offer additional languages, the Duke of Edinburgh Award programme and field trips. These activities open up learning to spaces outside of the classroom and allow students to explore education for themselves.
We have successfully managed the Duke of Edinburgh Award programme for many years at both the Bronze and Silver Award Level. This renowned leadership programme is recognised across the world by employers and tertiary education institutions. Students in the programme gain many transferable life skills, such as compass and map reading, camping and survival skills, leadership and management, as well as completing charitable voluntary work.
Independent experience and learning is an integral part of the Moorland approach. We support our students in exploring the world around them. We have an engaging Enrichment programme for Junior School students which involve taking part in activities such as caving, tree climbing, archery, raft building, abseiling and more. Enrichment provides a space for students to develop their social, moral, spiritual and cultural strengths and thus enabling them to flourish in their childhood, as well as later life.
Students can also make the most of the Ribble Valley’s incredible natural flora and fauna with our Forest school. This activity presents a fantastic opportunity for the children to take a hands-on approach to their learning. Forest school offers students the chance to interact socially with others and to solve problems effectively. This includes skill and play-based activities such as den building, fire lighting, tool use and woodland games.
Senior school students also have a wide selection of pastimes to enjoy. From horse riding and golfing, to ballet, team sports, skiing trips and debating; there is something for everyone at Moorland School.
Ballet requires dedication and passion. The Moorland International Ballet Academy hone students skill and drive to prepare them for the world of professional ballet. Lynsey and Simon Kidd use their extensive experience to instil professional values within ballet students and teach etiquette, decorum and respect for the studio, the art form, the teachers and peers.
Moorland International Ballet Academy encourages self-discovery and nurtures the development of each student’s unique artistic qualities. As a creative pursuit, ballet is all about expression; and students thrive on the positive and inspiring atmosphere created by the faculty. We value the importance of confidence and happiness and create a space for students to build their skills. From classical training and conditioning, to modern dance, choreography, and dramatic training, our multi-faceted approach helps our students reach new heights and pursue careers in the professional world of ballet.
Moorland School’s Football Academy has a rich history of developing talented, professional footballers. Led by Mr Charlie Jackson, our state-of-the-art training programme boasts coaches with UEFA A & B licenses and experience in bringing the best out of our football teams.
Moorland Football Academy challenges for honours in several regional and national tournaments including the Lancashire Cup, ESFA and ISFA. Our success has led to over thirty boys signing contracts to professional academies such as Manchester United, Blackburn Rovers and Real Madrid.
Students will also find cutting-edge equipment and professional-level facilities. We are lucky enough to have outdoor pitches and an indoor 4G training centre. Moorland’s academy is renowned throughout the UK and affords our players a unique chance to impress Category 1 Clubs such as Manchester City F.C and Blackburn Rovers.
