Moorland - Living

Boarding Students

A safe Haven with Stunning Surroundings

Grow & Develop in a Home Away from Home

Around one third of our children at Moorland are boarders, and we find it makes an excellent social mix with our day students from the surrounding areas. Utilising boarding can be vital for students at our Ballet and Football academies, so students can really make the most of the available professional staff and dedicated learning curriculum.

Catering for an all encompassing age range of boarding students, has meant that we facilitate 3 separate boarding houses for a selection of age ranges. Each of these houses are secured with state-of-the-art access control systems and are permanently managed by our friendly boarding and pastoral staff.

The Willows

The Willows is the boarding house in which students in years 3 through to 9 live. Our family approach and focus on the nurturing of all children ensures that all our students feel safe and live a happy home-from-home life at Moorland. Boarding together in the same house, boys and girls have separate sleeping and sitting rooms for relaxing. There is a shared communal area to allow all students the freedom to decide how they wish to spend their social time.

Children in The Willows boarding house are heavily supported by our staff team, ensuring a warm friendly environment is always available and children are encouraged emotionally and socially. Our consistent success with these Staff-to-Student bonds is paramount to what is achieved at Moorland School.

The Oaks

The Oaks boarding house is home to students in years 10 through to 12. Students living in The Oaks are actively encouraged to be independent individuals preparing them for adult life as soon as possible, whilst maintaining the integral support system when it is required. The facilities at The Oaks provide students with two large common areas, a pool table and TV with access to satellite channels, as well as a small kitchen area promoting the independence of living required for modern adult life.

With parental permission, students in The Oaks are allowed to go offsite providing they respect our signing in and out procedures. Our focus on nurturing students with personalised support is also present throughout their later boarding years with support and mentorship from our team of Houseparents ensures the warmth remains whilst the independence grows.

The Moorland Family

Living & Learning Surrounded by Friends

Moorland School is home to a culturally diverse range of students with international heritage. This allows all our students to grow and learn within a thriving educational space encouraging thought and understanding. Our students live and learn together, forming bonds and friendships that last a lifetime, as well as opening international bonds that without Moorland School wouldn’t exist.

Actively promoting inclusive groups and merging our academy students within our day and boarding groups leads to happy friendly children and young adults. Our boarding houses afford a high degree of care, ensuring students learn and thrive in our friendly, family environment. Boarding offers opportunities for our children to develop their independence and gain confidence in their abilities whilst still being supported emotionally by experienced staff. All this results in students that are composed, articulate, confident, and self-assured to learn, live and lead into the future.

Our unique location affords Moorland School all the benefits of a quaint, country setting while still offering easy access to metropolitan centres and transport links. Getting to and from Clitheroe is direct and easy for international students. We are equidistant from three airports, Liverpool Airport, Leeds Bradford Airport, and Manchester International Airport. Manchester International Airport can be accessed by the nearby Clitheroe Train Station (7 minutes from the school) with daily trains taking just 60 minutes to reach the airport.

We provide a free airport collection and drop off service for students. We only use school vehicles and all drivers are security checked. Our drivers also ensure that children are guided within the airport, whether this is helping them check-in for departure or meeting them upon arrival.

We do ask parents to read and understand the airlines ‘Unaccompanied Minor Policy’ before booking your child’s airline tickets. Please ensure that you have communicated this to the school office. An unaccompanied minor is a child without the presence of a legal guardian. This term is used in immigration law and airline policies. The specific definition varies from country to country and from airline to airline.
