International Boarding School in North West England | Moorland Private School
HOME AWAY FROM HOME

A safe haven with stunning surroundings

Moorland is located on the edge of the historical town of Clitheroe and we are in walking distance from some of the North West’s finest outdoor locations. We are also close enough to major cities to enable comfortable commuting.

A Special place for learning

Grow & develop in a home away from home

Around one third of our children at Moorland are boarders, and we find it makes an excellent social mix with our day students from the surrounding areas. Utilising boarding can be vital for students at our Ballet and Football academies, so students can really make the most of the available professional staff and dedicated learning curriculum.

Catering for an all encompassing age range of boarding students, has meant that we facilitate 3 separate boarding houses for a selection of age ranges. Each of these houses are secured with state-of-the-art access control systems and are permanently managed by our friendly boarding and pastoral staff.

THE WILLOWS
The Willows - Moorland School Boarding House

The Willows is the boarding house in which students in years 3 through to 9 reside. Our family approach and focus on the nurturing of all children ensures that all our students feel safe and live a happy home-from-home life at Moorland. Boarding together in the same house, boys and girls have separate sleeping and sitting rooms for relaxing. There is a shared communal area to allow all students the freedom to decide how they wish to spend their social time.

Children in The Willows boarding house are heavily supported by our staff team, ensuring a warm friendly environment is always available and children are encouraged emotionally and socially. Our consistent success with these Staff-to-Student bonds is paramount to the success achieved at Moorland School.

THE OAKS
The Oaks - Moorland School Boarding House

The Oaks boarding house is home to students in years 10 through to 12. Students living in The Oaks are actively encouraged to be independent individuals preparing them for adult life as soon as possible, whilst maintaining the integral support system when it is required. The facilities at The Oaks provide students with two large common areas, a pool table and TV with access to satellite channels, as well as a small kitchen area promoting the independence of living required for modern adult life.

With parental permission, students in The Oaks are allowed to venture offsite providing they abide by curfews and signing in/out procedures. Our focus on nurturing students with personalised support is also present throughout their later boarding years with support and mentorship from our team of Houseparents ensures the warmth remains whilst the independence grows.

THE COTTAGE
The Cottage - Moorland School Boarding House

Students in year groups 12 and 13 have the opportunity to live in The Cottage. A completely independent building within the campus grounds, The Cottage provides older students with the opportunity to experience boarding much closer to adult life living in a shared space. With all the facilities of a normal house, the students here have access to a full kitchen, living room with the usual modern conveniences.

Although our students at The Cottage are treated as young adults; we still provide the same level of nurturing and care provided to all our students, with an experienced houseparent residing at The Cottage overnight and intermittently throughout the evenings and weekend. As with The Oaks, with parental permission, students are allowed to venture off-campus as long as curfews and procedures are followed.

Internationally Accessible

Easy access to airports, transport links & northern social hub cities

Our unique location affords Moorland School all the benefits of a quaint, country setting while still offering easy access to metropolitan centres and transport links. Getting to and from Clitheroe is direct and easy for international students. We are equidistant from three airports, Liverpool Airport, Leeds Bradford Airport, and Manchester International Airport. Manchester International Airport can be accessed by the nearby Clitheroe Train Station (7min from the school) with daily trains taking just 60min to reach the airport.

We provide a free airport collection and drop off service for students. We only use school vehicles and all drivers are cleared with DBS. Our drivers also ensure that children are guided within the airport too. Whether this is helping them check-in for departure or meeting them upon arrival.

We do ask parents to read and understand the airlines ‘Unaccompanied Minor Policy’ before booking your child’s airline tickets. Please ensure that you have communicated this to the school office. An unaccompanied minor is a child without the presence of a legal guardian. This term is used in immigration law and airline policies. The specific definition varies from country to country and from airline to airline.
