Screen Time – Educated and Inspired with Charlotte Tonkinson

by Sep 25, 2020Ballet, School

In our efforts to overcome the challenges we face during these difficult times; it is always a joy to see the students of Moorland Ballet make the most of a wonderful opportunity. We had the great pleasure of welcoming Charlotte Tonkinson of The Royal Ballet to chat live with our Students via Zoom.

Charlotte, a former student of Simon Kidd, now successfully performs internationally as an artist of the Royal Ballet company. We were lucky enough to find out that her favourite ballet is Giselle and the Rome and Juliet costumes are far harder to dance in, than they manage to make it look!

Upon greeting the students via our in-studio screen, Charlotte began with an introduction to her experience and journey to date. After this she very kindly answered several questions from the students and offered advice and support to the journey they’re currently on.

Questions as always expected from our students, were inquisitive and forward thinking, questioning what it would be like to dance with the Royal Ballet? How many pointe shoes you might expect to use? What does it take to get to that level? What advice would be useful? Our students were lucky enough to gain thoughtful answers from Charlotte as well as a few interesting trinkets about her life.

Simon Kidd said ‘It was very rewarding to see the students confidently ask sensible questions and make the most of the time we had. Charlotte was very impressed and excited to see us in the studio and has suggested she would love to teach at the first available opportunity.’

As a School we are maintaining our expected standards of educating and inspiring even in these difficult circumstances. And whilst the theatres are closed, it is necessary to explore new possibilities and take advantage of all opportunities.

After the success of talking to Charlotte and the fabulous inspiration the students have taken. We are very pleased to announce we have been able to secure a number of Artists from a variety of genres lined up for future Q and A sessions.
