At Moorland we offer a unique learning experience where students develop their social, mental, and educational wellbeing in a caring and nurturing environment. Every aspect of life at Moorland is tailored to individual student needs. Our holistic environment allows us to help students realise their true potential and help them grow into happy, independent individuals.
One of the key aspects of the Moorland way of life is our small class sizes. These classes allow our dedicated team to hone the syllabus and adapt it to individual strengths and interests. Our close-knit family atmosphere helps develop interpersonal skills like communication, self-confidence, and respect.
This focus on individual development allows us to teach our students not only academically but develop positive traits such as respect, honesty, self-confidence, and independence. These skills prepare students for life beyond school and allow them to pursue their goals.
Our school sits in a picturesque environment with modern classrooms, abundant natural surroundings and incredible facilities. This setting engages students creativity and drive; allowing them to pursue interests in a safe, relaxed setting. Students learn best when interacting with their environment and we offer a lot of first-hand exposure to the world to allow independent discovery and learning.
The senior curriculum is uniquely individual. Every student learns differently and has different interests. Our curriculum tailors lessons, subjects, topics, and learning pathways to engage minds and promote independent thought. We teach a broad range of subjects from Mathematics, English and Sciences, to creative and technical pursuits like Dance, Design and Technology, and Art.
Social skills are a vital part of student development. Our small class sizes and pastoral care help students develop social skills such as confidence, respect and communication. This aspect of learning is as important as traditional education and prepares students for the requirements of further study, the workplace, and life.
Moorland school creates a caring environment to prepare students for life beyond school. We do this by helping our senior students pursue their goals and develop socially, emotionally, and intellectually. We engage our students in a meaningful way to challenge, encourage, and support them as they develop. Our approach is reinforced by our tailored curriculum, familial support network, and a drive to create a lifelong love for learning and discovery.
Our education team is passionate about the work they do and regularly attend training courses to improve methods of education and assessment. Staying up to date allows our team to intervene early and use modern assessment methods to develop education strategies.
Key Stage 3 is an integral part of the education journey. Students move from the Junior School into the Senior School and begin to adapt the rigours of a more challenging and independent education. Students are taught a wide range of subjects including English, Maths, Science, Religious Studies, Music, Art, Drama and Geography. Along with these subjects, students can also make the most of our extracurricular activities such as Ballet and Football.
Students are also encouraged to learn independently, be it through planned trips, presentations, or spending time in the beautiful Ribble Valley. Independent thought breeds a love for learning and extends education beyond just the classroom.
Years 10 & 11 are vitally important in helping students prepare for life after Moorland. Whether students choose to go on to tertiary education, pursue careers, or stay with us through Sixth Form, our curriculum and way of teaching prepare them to make decisions and reach their goals. Our education and pastoral care team work with students individually and use trusted assessment methods to monitor areas of potential development.
Students thrive in our close-knit family environment. They have the confidence to speak their minds and our team always promote positive skills like respect, communication, and self-assurance.
Moorland School is a place where learning is not just limited to the classroom. We have a selection of extramural activities including football, dance, music, art and drama. We also work with the local community to enrich the learning experience, be it a Q and A session, a guided tour of historic buildings, presentations, or a hike in the beautiful natural surroundings.
Our football and ballet programmes are held in high regard with both helping aspiring dancers and footballers achieve their dreams and go on to professional pursuits. As always, our extramural activities allow us to engage students with the world around them and cultivate independence, self-confidence and skill development.
