Bringing our learning to life! 🍂🐿️
Our EYFS children love their weekly Forest School sessions with Katie and today we took our English book, The Leaf Thief, outdoors! 📖🌳
We explored autumn, learnt about deciduous trees and discovered why their leaves fall, a lovely way to connect our classroom learning with the world around us.
Being outside gives us time to explore, connect with nature and enjoy being together, supporting our wellbeing along the way. 🧡
A huge thank you to Katie for making these sessions so special. So much learning and so much fun, as always! 🌿

Some of our Year 2 children are already developing their understanding of column addition and we’re only in the autumn term! ✏️🔢
Did you know that formal column addition is included in the Year 3 National Curriculum? Some of our young mathematicians are beginning that journey now, building on their understanding of number and place value. They’ve even learnt how to exchange ten ones for one ten!
At Moorland Junior School, we celebrate each child’s progress, supporting and challenging them as they grow in confidence. We’re so proud of their hard work! 💙

Longships, legends and fierce Viking faces! ⚔️🛡️
Our young Vikings travelled back in time for a day of discovery, exploring Viking life through traditional games, fascinating artefacts, rowing drills and shield formations.
The grand finale? A mighty Viking battle cry to give Mrs Simmonds a fright! 😂
History brought to life, with plenty of learning and laughter along the way. 💙

Today, we’ve been busy with practical paediatric first aid training! 🩹💙
From cuts and grazes to sprains and strains, and more serious emergencies involving CPR, choking and seizures. We’ve been developing the skills and confidence to respond when it matters most.
Learning how to act quickly and calmly in potentially life-threatening situations is such an important part of keeping our school community safe.

From hive to jar… this week it has been honey harvest time at Moorland Junior School! 🐝🍯
After months of caring for our bees, our children finally enjoyed the sweet reward of their hard work!
Since first putting on their beekeeping suits in May, the children have spent the spring and summer learning about the bees’ busy world and how to help keep our colony healthy and thriving.
First, they checked that the honeycomb was capped with wax before carefully removing the wax caps to reveal the honey underneath. They measured the honey’s water content, which was 18%, then placed the frames into the extractor and watched centrifugal force work its magic! ✨
Next came straining the honey and pouring it into jars. 🍯
The children took some of their very own Moorland honey home to share! Next week, we’ll also be selling little jars for families who would like to purchase some. 💛
It has been lovely to watch their curiosity and confidence grow as they’ve cared for our bees together. Seeing that care turn into jars of honey has given them something very special to feel proud of! 💙

Our School Ready children have been exploring the beautiful story of Leaf Man, taking their learning beyond the classroom and out into the autumn sunshine🌳
After sharing the story together, they wrapped up and headed out on an autumnal walk to forage for our very own natural treasures, searching for leaves of all shapes, sizes and colours, along with sticks, seeds and all the wonderful things autumn has to offer🍁
Back in the classroom, those treasures were transformed as the children used their imaginations to create their very own Leaf Men. We loved seeing how completely different each creation was, lots of creativity, careful choices and brilliant conversations along the way✨
A story brought to life through literacy, nature, exploration and creativity… just how we like our learning! 🤎

There’s something very special about watching our littlest explorers embrace the outdoors!
Our Toddler One children have been busy at Forest School , sharing stories together, collecting autumn treasures, transporting their finds in wheelbarrows, getting creative with mark making and, of course, finding plenty of opportunities to climb, explore and get wonderfully muddy! 🍂🌰
At this age, Forest School is all about giving children the time and freedom to explore with their whole bodies and all of their senses. Every little adventure supports growing confidence, physical development, communication, curiosity and those all-important early friendships.
No elaborate activities needed… just nature, space, a little bit of mud and lots of curious little minds✨
We absolutely love seeing our Toddler One children making Forest School their own! 🤎

✨A D V E N T U R E S ✨
Our Pre-School children had the loveliest adventure at Gisburn Forest, heading into the woods to explore the Room on the Broom Trail! 🧹
With wellies on and plenty of excitement, the children followed the trail through the forest, spotting familiar characters, completing the activities and discovering all sorts of autumn treasures along the way. Pinecones were collected, woodland dens explored and there was plenty of investigating, chatting and teamwork as we made our way through the trees.
Trips like these are such a wonderful extension of our learning; bringing much loved stories to life while giving our children the freedom to explore, be curious, take on little challenges and simply enjoy being outdoors together✨
And judging by those faces, we think the magic of the forest was a definite hit! ⭐

Reception absolutely loved today’s Forest School session! 🌿🌧️
A little rain (and a lot of mud!) never stops our youngest explorers.
Today’s adventure was all about puddle jumping, muddy hands, teamwork and embracing the great outdoors in all its autumn glory.

We were so lucky to have Steph from Steph’s Cleaning Services visit us today as part of our ‘People Who Help Us’ topic! 🤩
Steph shared all about how she helps her clients and businesses, and how she manages her amazing team👩💼✨
The children had a super time learning how to use different cleaning tools, and we even got to clean the toys, the floor, and fold toilet paper! 🧽
It was such a fun, hands-on way to understand the value of teamwork and the importance of helping others.

Our Key Stage 2 had an amazing day exploring the river, spotting wildlife, and learning all about the life cycles of mayflies and trout! 🪶🐠

What an incredible day at the Moorland Family Fun Afternoon! 🎉
Our school field was bursting with colour and laughter as families enjoyed a fantastic carnival-themed event, brought to life by Moorland Junior School and Moorland Junior School PTA.
From the vibrant face painting and bustling stalls to classic games like Hook a Duck and the Coconut Shy, there was fun at every turn. The inflatable helter skelter by Funtime Inflatables was a huge hit, while little ones loved the soft play and toddler bouncy castle provided by Ribble Valley Soft Play Hire.
🎶 The Ribble Valley Community Band and Phoenix Solo filled the air with music, and Adrian Catch wowed us all with his magical tricks! Families captured memories at the Photo Booth, refuelled with delicious food from Amico Mio, cooled down with ice cream, and relaxed with a drink from the bar.
💛 A massive thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make today so special — what a brilliant celebration of our school community!
