Maintaining Student Happiness & Academic Confidence

Moorland school prioritises the student’s happiness and wellbeing above all else. This focus requires constant care and support. Our staff also understand that students learn and develop differently. Thanks to our small class sizes and bespoke lesson plans, we balance this need for support and individual guidance through a uniquely familial school set up. SEND coordinators, teachers, teaching assistants and support staff are all integral to nurturing our students’ development.

Our parents have the direct contact information of each of their child’s subject teachers, including SLT members, Boarding Managers and Heads of Departments. Whether in Junior or Senior school, student development is tracked closely through regular intervention sessions in which students receive personalised targets, based on their needs.

Gifted & Talented

Our campus is home to several dedicated teaching buildings that live in harmony with our academies and boarding houses. The education we deliver always takes priority incorporating small class sizes, considered curriculums and excellent learning spaces. We also identify each student’s learning focus and establish a combination of visual, audio, traditional, and kinesthetic methods to engage young minds.

Junior Years

Our Junior Years system focuses on T Stage 1 and 2 development with our specialist SEND team regularly assessing students and updating lesson plans to match their needs. This allows us to offer effective tracking for intervention, support, and encouragement.

Senior Years

Our Senior Years covers everything from T Stage 3-5. Here our team help students reach their full potential whether it’s achieving outstanding GCSE results or going on to study for A-Levels or BTEC. Our dedicated team employs CAT scores to identify the right paths for students to take whilst studying. This ,along with baseline assessments, allows us to help our students overcome obstacles and grow.

Gifted & Talented

Providing Young Minds the Best Platform to Thrive & Learn

Our team understands that every child learns at different paces and we develop learning outcomes that reinforce strength, and appeal to every child’s learning style.

Within school, we provide extra support be it academically, physically, emotionally or socially. Each child also receives a regular assessment in the form of our Rising Stars half term assessments. Analysis of this data allows teachers to identify any children who may need some support and provide assistance sooner rather than later.

Special Educational Needs

Adaptive Learning to Give All Students the Best Chance of Success

Moorland boasts two SEND Coordinators who manage teaching assistants and support the SEND teaching team with syllabus recommendations and planning. We strive to ensure all our SEND students reach their academic, social, and emotional potential. We also cap class sizes at 20 students to ensure every student gets the individual attention they need and admit students based upon behaviour. This approach allows us to create a space where everyone feels valued and confident in their abilities to learn and grow.

Parental Involvement

Regular Updates & Trackable Learning Progress

We strongly believe that educating children is a relationship between ourselves at Moorland and parents. Parents receive constant feedback on their child’s development. We track SEND students progress through regular intervention sessions and determine personalised targets based on these needs. We also review progress every half term to locate and deal with any gaps in learning. Our pastoral and welfare teams also meet regularly to discuss the students’ needs. Where necessary, we will implement intervention plans, sometimes requiring parental involvement.

All of these procedures are shared with parents either through phone calls, e-mails, and other means. Every decision is transparent. Parents often feel empowered in helping their child’s development, even if they aren’t in the same country. We also hold regular Parent’s Evenings, send out half termly reports and operate with an Open-Door Policy.
