The Chancellor of the Exchequer has announced that from 1st January 2025, the government will remove the VAT exemption for private schools. This change, which applies to all private education providers, includes no exceptions for military families.
To help mitigate the impact on service personnel, the government has confirmed that the Continuity of Education Allowance (CEA) rate cap will be uprated. This ensures that eligible claimants will continue to receive up to 90% of school fees covered, providing essential support for families seeking consistency in their child’s education.
While the new VAT policy includes no exemptions, the government has stated its commitment to monitoring the effects on military families.
At Moorland School, we recognise the importance of stability and continuity for our military families, particularly for those balancing frequent relocations and deployments. As a proud provider of education and boarding for service families, we remain dedicated to supporting our military community through these upcoming changes.
