Moving home often or relocating and changing a child’s school can have a detrimental effect on their learning journey, causing unnecessary disruption and difficulties. Considering a Boarding School can often provide an option for stability and deliver a consistent learning environment.
The MOD also helps to overcome this disruption, by funding an allowance (CEA). This allowance contributes to 90% of boarding school fees. This allows your family to move together but for the child to have a continuous education in a familiar location from the age of 8.
When selecting Moorland, we ensure your child feels like they are in a home away from home and are welcomed into our warm family environment. We have successfully nurtured generations of children from military families, acknowledging the challenges that families face, striving to help families overcome them in the most comfortable and academically positive way possible.

Life at Moorland School is structured so that children find a balance of routine and relaxation whilst maintaining a strong education and home life balance. Traditional lessons during term time start from 9AM till 4PM, our boarders then take part in guided study of an evening. This guided study allows for the students to gain extra help and support when completing homework or to address any areas they require help with to further their studies. We ensure guided study takes place, understanding that children need encouragement and guidance when it comes to independent study. Boarding students also take part in guided study on a Saturday to ensure that any outstanding homework has been completed before weekend activities commence. Parents evenings and educational reviews can be completed virtually, meaning you can always be updated and aware of your child’s progress at school; something we feel is extremely important when it comes to choosing a boarding school.
As our children board together in their year groups it makes learning together much easier. Children gain support from their peers in the boarding house and often revise for exams together and support one another in areas of opportunity. This unique experience for children is truly like no other; living and learning with your friends under the watchful eye of our houseparents. When boarding, our houseparents apply patience, understanding, common sense and humour as they deal with the daily routine of boarding life. They read bedtime stories and play games with younger students; they apply firm but friendly persuasion when a bedroom needs tidying up; they understand when things are not going well and how to work with the children to turn their goals into achievements. Our houseparents deliver experience and dedication when helping our children.
