Supporting Mental Wellness – A Message from Our Headteacher
The mental wellbeing of all our Moorland family is extremely important to us. We are aware of the pressures that the lockdowns have placed on all children and young adults, as well as parents and carers. At Moorland, we stand together in the sentiment that no one should feel alone in their struggles and that our door is always open to every member.

Boarders Bake Off from humble beginnings to a show-stopping finale!
Five weeks ago Moorland School’s Miss Walberg, launched a new and exciting after school group, ‘Boarders Bake Off!’. The activity group was started for our younger boarding students from the Willows boarding house.

Art Competition with Barratt Homes! Our Winners!
Following the launch of the Waddow Heights development on Waddington Road, Moorland School were invited to be a part of Barratt and David Wilson Homes ‘Welcome Home’ campaign. With the goal of the campaign being to spread joy, warmth and happiness, Moorland was overjoyed to be involved with this scheme, supporting local businesses and spreading joy within our community.

Moorland Family Pyjama Day! Donations for Children’s Hospital Pyjamas!
Moorland School are so proud our of students, parents and staff for all the support they have offered during the schools bid to raise donations for Children’s Hospital Pyjamas. With all our fundraising and donations we have been able to provide more than 30 pairs of pyjamas in varying sizes and ages for those in need! Children’s Hospital Pyjamas will distribute these to support less fortunate children in Hospitals, Hospices, School Hospital Teams and Women’s refuges.

Coaches – John Cofie & Charlie Jackson – BBC Radio Lancs Interview with Andy Bayes
During his first few weeks of term, John’s appointment caused a slight stir amongst local and national media; with several outlets reaching out to discuss this career move for John, having previously played at Burnley and Manchester United. One of these led to a very interesting conversation with BBC radio presenter, Andy Bayes.

The Moorland Family welcomes Yaya Touré!
Moorland School is no stranger to big names and guest coaches across our academies, but they come no bigger than the guest superstar we had the opportunity to welcome in the first week of November. A footballer who needs no introduction; whose accolades include previous three times Premier League, four times African Player of the Year, African Cup of Nations and Champions League winner; whose personality and kindness proceeds him everywhere he goes, we were incredibly pleased to welcome Yaya Touré to Moorland Football Academy.

Three called up for International Duty! Representing Kenya & Botswana!
Three of our talented students have been called up to represent Kenya U17’s and Botswana U20’s to compete in the CECAFA/AFCON qualifiers this December.

Children’s Hospital Pyjamas – From the Moorland Family to Another
As a socially conscious organisation, we have selected Children’s Hospital Pyjamas as our way to give a little more to society this term. Children’s Hospital Pyjamas are a UK based charity, who collect donations of brand new pyjamas, from the public, and then donate to Hospitals, Hospice’s, School Hospital Teams and Women’s refuges up and down the country. These are then given to poorly or less fortunate children who are inpatients.

Bringing a Little Brightness to Clitheroe – Fundraising for Papyrus
Tuesday the 14th was the last fitness session of the term for the Moorland Ballet Academy 6th Form and with this and current global circumstances in mind, the students and their Ballet Director, Mr Kidd, decided on an impromptu fundraising drive.

Exploring the River Ribble, Clitheroe – Junior Day Out
Moorland School’s Juniors enjoyed an excellent trip in the great outdoors. They spent time learning about our local river, The River Ribble, luckily for us, the river is situated right next door to the school!
Miss Walberg led the walk on the breezy sunny day, she focused on teaching the children about the features of the rivers and how they come to be formed.

Guest Teacher – Former Moorland Ballet Graduate, Joshua Webb
What a proud day, to welcome Moorland Ballet Graduate, Joshua Webb back into the studios. Josh is currently a dancer with San Diego Ballet Company in the USA. Due to Covid he has been home in England, reapplying for his visa and will be returning to perform with the company in the not too distance future.

In our efforts to overcome the challenges we face during these difficult times; it is always a joy to see the students of Moorland Ballet make the most of a wonderful opportunity. We had the great pleasure of welcoming Charlotte Tonkinson of the Royal Ballet to chat live with our Students via Zoom.

Cofie Comes Home – From Moorland to Manchester United & Back Again.
At the start of the 2020 school term, Moorland School is pleased to welcome John Cofie back in a Coaching Role.
John will be joining Head of Football Development, Charlie Jackson in a role which extends our already vast offering of knowledge and experience within the football world.

Our Juniors & Infants Explored on Learning Walks
On Thursday Moorland Junior School took the opportunity to take a ‘learning walk’ around our local town of Clitheroe.
During the circular walk the students learned about the local history of Clitheroe. Touching upon Clitheroe Castle, the three wells, influential historic buildings and many other facts they previously wouldn’t have known about our town. The students were also able to enjoy a socially distant visit to Clitheroe Market.

COVID-19 Precautions – BSA Covid-Safe Charter
As a boarding school we will be following the Boarding School’s Association newly announced COVID-SAFE Charter. All member schools who have adopted the BSA Covid-Safe Charter confirm that they will comply with all government rules and guidance and will meet all necessary safety requirements to create the safest environment possible for all of their students.

Improved Communications across the Board for all Parents & Carers
As part of our ongoing plan of constant improvement, we’re taking the necessary steps to improve clear and stable communication between parents, the school and staff members.

Significant Projects across the entire School
During the break we have carried out several refurbishments in our Junior School and Boarding houses, along with the provision of new desks, chairs and displays for our Senior School. Significant time and effort has gone into the refurbishment of our Junior School, Boarding Houses and Nursery.

New Staff Additions for the 2020 School Year
During the summer we have increased the size of our team with new additions to our Junior School, Senior School, Football Academy and Marketing Department. We are eager to introduce our new staff members and have collated a few notes to help you get to know them before you get a chance to meet.

GCSE Results Success
Moorland pupils exceeded national expectations by achieving top ‘value added’ scores and grade results, with an overall pass rate of 86% this year, despite the uncertainty regarding the new, tougher, GCSEs and the change to numerical grades.
