A brand-new initiative, led by Moorland Private School and Blackburn Rovers F.C., invited local school children and their families to come to Ewood this weekend, with transport included!
The first three lucky schools to be invited were Whalley CofE Primary School, Chatburn CofE Primary School and Brookside Primary School. The aim of the initiative is to reach young people who maybe haven’t been to a football match before and gift them the amazing experience.
Moorland School and Blackburn Rovers, worked together to deliver the fans of tomorrow
Steve Waggott, CEO Blackburn Rovers FC, was delighted to invite local children to the stadium to watch the Rovers vs Swansea match on Saturday.
“This is the first part of a bigger, next generation initiative. Hopefully next season we can progress this even further and get all schools from the Ribble Valley to come and experience Ewood, roar the Rovers on and hopefully and take us up to the Premier League where we want to be!”
Moorland Private School are the official education partners with Blackburn Rovers F.C, delivering elite training at their International Football Academy, based in Clitheroe, Lancashire. The Moorland sponsored Ewood Express bus transported the children and families on the day.
Blackburn Rovers Community Trust ran an on-board raffle for the families where some fantastic prizes were on offer. Many of the families had never been to Ewood Park before and it was a much-enjoyed day out for all.
Jonathan Harrison, Headteacher at Moorland Private School is proud to have collaborated on the initiative and is looking forward to the invite extending to all local schools next year.
“As education providers we know how important it is for young people to be involved and engaged in sports from a young age. We already work closely with Rovers as official education partners, however we also wanted to assist them in reaching out to other local schools and harness the next generation of football fans!
“The new initiative reflects what we stand for and is sure to be a huge success in the years to come. The Moorland sponsored Ewood Express bus was ready to go and we thought this would be ideal to transport the young fans to the game. The bus picked up the children and their families outside their schools and delivered them to Ewood Park, after the game and a great day out they were transported back to their pick-up point.
The feedback has been fantastic, we have already had many local schools getting in touch to find out how they can get involved next season.”
